Stocking For 1300 Liter Tank

Ignore some of the less-attracting comments on here, hats off to you for making such an amazing thing. It is completely unusual and is going to make an excellent looking aquarium. The width does not look huge, but going by your dimensions the photo is just deceiving. Your going to have a lot of fun doing that out and stocking it =]

Good stuff!

a few more pics of it with the hood and lights on... the dimensions are 1600 x 1600 x 850. (all im mm). as stated before, the widest part is about 2.5 ft and the narrowest is about 1 foot....

I think it looks fantastic. I'd kill for that tank (and the space to put it in). Can't wait to see the pics when it's all set up.

I'd totally make that a Discus tank. Barring that, how about Angels? And I think a large shoal of silver dollars would look great in a tall tank like that, and I reckon the shape of the tank would encourage them to shoal tightly. Unless you want live plants of course, as silver dollars will shred them.

not my cup of tea but nice tank!

gotta ask though, does the weird front shape not distort the view of the fish??

did u build it urself then??
corr ....imagine if it curved out instead if in.., but a curve outwards seems the norm, where as yours is very original.. and sexy i might add too,if it was mine i would be temted to go marine with that ;)
are you going to have a hood on it or leave it open ?( but i notice you may put balas in there,so not good open)

keep the pics coming

I would of thought it will be very disorted, and will have to becarful of what fish he puts in there, none over 8-10" as they wont fit at the 1foot bits :D

i use to work at a plastics place. so i made it while i was at work over a few weeks. I was going to go marine, but the cost of the lighting required kind of killed it. And plus i wanted to go from 3 tanks in the house to just one. Stand is being built this week and everything should be installed and ready for water by next weekend :)

ill take some more pictures once fish are in there

Cheers, Trent

Hey guys, i have just finished building my 1300 Liter main tank and have filled her up to make sure there are no leaks or blow outs before i get the stand welded up. Currently I have 6 clown loaches (between 3 and 6 inches), 4 bala sharks (3 at 4inches and 1 at 12 inches), a 5" elephant nose and about 11 tetra's in my 400L tank. What else would you suggest to put in the large tank?

I can see some issues here. The tank is only 1 foot wide in some areas and has a very unique floor plan. While it won't happen for some time, clown loaches will get to a foot long (and then some) and they will porbably find the tank somewhat cramped. The good news is that you have something like 10 years before you can expect them at that size. Likewise, due to the shape of the tank the bala sharks will not actually have a great deal of swimming room once they are 8-10" long.

I personally would not have put balas in that tank, but that is my view having kept large balas. Your Mileage May Vary.

Also, i plan on just using all of my existing water from the 400 L tank and using my existing filters as well as the new fx5. Would i still need to cycle the tank or should everything be ok to just add the fish straight away?

The water is not important if you are already performing water changes with regularity. Throw in all the filter media from your old filter to the new tank and then put all the fish in and the tank will be instantly cycled and away you go.

One thing I do have to say (since you made it yourself) is that it is a very good bit of work. Shame you didn't go marine, you could have gone for a FOWLR with some shoals of smaller fish taht would have looked stunning.

Yeah, the more I think about it the more I agree with the suggestions to add lots of small schooling fish. Anything that breaks their line of sight will make them school very tightly (since each of them aims to see as many of its mates as possible at any given time), so the shape of that tank would be ideal.
