Right, considering ordering a 5x2x2 tank, 496 litre.

My current stock is:

1 oscar
1 gold sev
1 green sev
2 jade eyeds
1 L001 plec
1 chrysicthys ornatus

What else could I stock or am I near the limit? The green sev and plec may be rehomed.

Any opinions welcome. :D

well the oscar will get around 14inch+ and your other fish will have to grow around about the same size if they don't wanna get eat by the oscar lol so i would say your at your limit because all thoughs fish will need they own space in the tank to :good:

How did I know what you were saying before i opened this thread?? I saw you were the last poster, and thought to myself.....he recommending mbuna.

whatever works for your mate if you keep up your water changes and that then you could overstock slightly iM pretty sure mine is but i keep up the water changes and the fish look happy

how bout a bichir of some kind

I don't even think mattlee's keith is 14" let alone more.

The sevs will reach 12" max I reckon and the male jade eyed will probably reach 5" whilst the female will stay at around 3". The others are bottom dwellers so won't be a massive part of the water column, although they do have to be considered.

Would like a group of geo's of some kind, maybe some cupids if I win the lottery? Lol.

Where is wills when you need him? Lol.

Hey simon, may well look into a birchir. Thanks for the suggestion. Was actually considering buying keith... :look:

I saw you mentioned that you may rehome the green. I personally wouldnt as they are lovely fihies. But if you must rehome him, I'm in st louis....just mail him over :p

awe Keiths lovely my two get on like a house onfire. Ive bouight 4 geos myself they are ace fish cannot wait for them to grow as they are only about 3 inches for now. I would imagine as a group they would look great in a decent sized tank

Which geo's do you have simon? I don't think keith would work out, matt has had loads of trouble with him and other big cichlids. :/

ok lets get things straight. recently there has been loads of posts saying fish will eat other fish..... yes they will and do but within reason. i cant see a fully grown oscar eating a fish above 4-5 inches.

they may attack fish but they wont be physically able to eat another big fish without knife and fork!

oscars rarely get over 12-13 inch in an aquarium so 14+ is getting a bit carried away i think. keith is about 13 inches and im not sure he will grow any more tbh.

ok back to Daves post...

5x2x2 sounds huge but when its set up and infront of you it really isnt. great tank for an oscar but dont get too carried away with stocking mate. maybe swap the green sev for another gold and something else for the bottom unless your cat is active and not a true nocturnal fish.

i would love Keith to go to another member here so i could keep up with progress of him.... he has been fine with rainbow cichlids and arulius barbs and never bothered any cats or plecs ive had its just other big cichlids..... but a new tank and new set up/decor etc may give a new attitude. its trial and error really especially with Keith and i wouldnt want him going off to the lfs after a week.

some nice Red Eye Tetra mate?

Hahaha! I guess I asked for that. Lol!

Matt, all very true. That would be the only thing that would put me off. If it went belly up then I would be screwed for somewhere else to put an oscar other than the lfs. May consider a group of pims if I rehome the plec. How about a group of 1m and 3f red humps?

if going for geos i would stick with 3 mate again for room in the tank. picture your oscar at 12 inches then a group of 3 geos at about 8 inches each. apart from small dithers i would call it stocked. a group of red eye tetras would be great or maybe buenos airies tetra, colombian tetras etc etc etc.

just be aware that the fully grown oscar may well just eat a few tetras though........

Even red humps? Do they reach 8"?

May rehome both sevs then and the plec then. :/

Unsure of dithers though. Can't imagine crf's or ba's being able to survive a grumpy oscar.
