Hi everyone! i'm currently in the planning stage of getting a 46 gallon bowfront tank and am having trouble deciding on what fish to put inside it. any and all input will be greatly appreciated!

sofar i have decided to go with a sand substrate, with mostly fake plants for now with some real ones being slowly introduced as i don't know much about plants. as for fish, i've pretty much decided to have:

6x Khuli loach
2x German Blue Rams
10x Cardinal tetras

and possibly a blood Parrot fish

please let me know if you think this mix will work, or if i need to change anything. i have had a few tanks in the past, but nothing this large.
Thanks!

Stocking looks ok, probably room for more if you wanted. Not too sure about the parrot though, they get pretty big and I think their temperament differs from fish to fish so it's possible that the cardinals might start to disappear.

i dont know anything about parrots, but you could get loads more in there, especially if you drop the parrot idea. straight away id also be adding a group of 6+ cory's, my personal favourites being sterbai and 3 line cories. also id get 1 or 2 plecs in there, nothing that stays too small though you'd probably never see it. i think a couple that grow to about 8 inches would be great. but then im a sucker for cory's and plecs.

i'm also thinking about getting ~4 glass catfish. i think they look really neat!

Be wary of glass catfish, they can be very tempremental health wise. keep them in at least groups of around 5 or 6.

they also have a high susceptibility to bacterial infections apparently, which shows up as a blotchy, opaque place on the fish’s body. Once this starts it is very difficult to cure, so it is better to keep the conditions optimal to avoid contraction of diseases.

yes , glass catfish need similar needs to Chocolate Gouramis: optimum water conditions, live foodsmost of the time, peacefull tankmates, suspictable to diseases and hard to cure, they often die for no apparent reason...list goes on but X-Ray tetras are better alternatives, much more active, easier over all to care for

i do like corys but i figured that as i'm already getting khulis that they might not be a great idea. i am thinking of getting either a rubbernose or a flash pleco. depends on availability at my lfs.

i'm not big on the x-ray tetras... doesn't seem to be as neat looking as the glass cats. i'll probably go with a shoal of harlequins instead. i'm not getting this tank until the new year  so i have lots of time to decide. the parrot was my sister's idea... she had one years ago and it's one of her fave fish.

would boseman rainbows go well?

Sorry for all the noob questions, i'm still rather new to fish keeping.

I would get a Rubbernose Pleco, a flash Pleco is VERY shy.
Boesmani Rainbowfish should be OK

I have the same tank as you are going to get and I am keeping:
10 congo tetras
14 cherry barbs
5 botia rostrata
3 bolivian rams
2 yoyos
4 otos (I have a planted tank)

Boesemaniis would be fine and nice. I would up the shoal of cardinals though as they look much nicer in a big shoal. Get at least 20. What about a golden nugget plec? Although you will have to find him a new home after some time since they can grow to 35 cms. Or what about whiptails? They get to only around 10 cms and I personally prefer them over bristlenose...

hey, would a red finned or ruby shark be out of the question? i've heard that they can be a bit aggressive, but i really like these guys. would it work if i waited until the others were settled before i added him?

so far, i've decided to stock 6 khulis, 10-15 cardinals, 2 blue rams. suggestions are welcome!

A 46 gallon tank is a tad too small for Rainbow Shark/RTBS plus, they will probably bully your loaches

that's what i thought... oh well. so if i get 6 khulis, 10-15 cardinals, 2 blue rams, a rubbernose, and a bosemanni, how many other fish could i get? i've never had a tank this big and it's hard to envision how it will look with the adult fish. would i be able to get a pair of gouramis? or should i just stick with what i have planned?

You should get at least 5 boesemanis; these are shoaling fish. If you want to add gouramis, add a trio, to spread the harrassing of the male. If you are taking the boesemanis, you are pushing it a bit with adding also gouramis.

What about;
6 khulis
10-15 cardinal tetra
2 Blue Rams
1 Rubbernose pleco
1 female Pearl Gourami
