Hi,

I'm looking to get a 4 foot tank and stand, however the space that it needs to go in is only just 4 foot across and there is a small metal gas pipe coming out of the floor by where some of the stand would go.

I'm happy to modify the stand so that there is a gap for the pipe, but would doing so make the stand too weak?  It would only mean taking making a little gap at the bottom, say 2-3 inches across and 1 inch deep.  Assume a wooden stand.

If it's not possible I'll look at stands where the bottom is narrower than the top!

Thanks,

Mark

i suppose that after your proposed modification you could fit an extra piece of wood discreetly next to the gap.
i am thinking of a sort of leg, (a length of 20mm x 20mm) will be more than strong enough. as long as you cant see it who cares?
it would act as an extra reinforcement to put your mind at rest.
or, failing that you could fit a smallish piece of square or rectangular plywood also with the same sized cut-out gap onto your stand and screw and glue it down firmly to reinforce things.
