For some unlucky reason, it always happened to me that I got overcharged, rather than getting a freebie.
There is a local food shop next to me that I visit often and quite a few times I felt the bill was a bit high than I expected, but they don't tend to give you a receipt every time, so I was left with that "unsure" feeling.
The last time I went, I told myself to ask for the receipt regardless. I bought some food and some wine and walked out happy, intending to check the receipt at home. I had noticed though that the girl looked hesitating when giving me the receipt, so I started having that "unsure" feeling and looked at it just outside the shop. I really did not expect to be robbed, but it turned out they charged me for 3 bottles of wine instead of 2. I bet you that was not their first time doing that to me!! When I walked back in the shop, this shop assistant had misteriously disappeared straight away, although it took me a few seconds to come back. I bet you that probably other innocent people have been hit like that.

I can't believe a thread that should be taken lightly has turned into such a serious debate, why don't those of you who think it's so wrong get of your high horse - it's £18 for gods sake, it's not like he's cracked open the safe and done a runner....!

Had it been the other way around, and you'd been overcharged by £18, you'd all, every single one of you, without exception, been straight back to the shop to get the error sorted. And the chances are you'd be posting about it on here as well. You can't have it both ways, if overcharging is wrong (which it is) then deliberately taking advantage of undercharging is also wrong.

I'm sorry if that offends you. I may well be on a high horse, but the high horse is standing on the moral high ground, and the view is fantastic!
