I have a 70l bare tank and have been looking for a sponge filter and found one but is only for a 50L tank would it be best to buy 2 of these or will it be ok with just the one?

I would buy the Sponge filter, and then purchase either a Power head with a Pre- Filter, or a AquaClear HOB.

The size of the filter is dependant on the number of fish and not on the tank volume. You can have 2 small fish in 1000litres of water and they will be fine with a small filter designed for a 100litre tank. On the other hand you could have 20 fish in 100litres of water and need a filter designed for a 500litre tank.
How many fish, and what type of fish, did you plan on having in the 70litre tank?
Having 2 of the 50litre filters in the tank will be adequate for most fish but might not be necessary.

^ See, I would side with you about 2 bieng adequate. But, Sponge Filters don't allow alot of aireation( spelling?). I had to put a Powerhead in my 30 because there was not enough oxygen for my fish. Power heads can increase aireation( depending on how you position it), and AquaClears will DEFINTALETY help aireate the tank. Plus, AquaClears have alot of Media room.

The amount of aeration would depend on the sponge filter. If it's the kind that's powered by an air pump, it can provide lots of water movement. :D

If they are small fry, one filter would be fine. The amount of beneficial bacteria that will grow will be proportionate to the size of the fish and the amount of waste they produce. Once they get bigger, you might want to think of adding another one. :D
