We have 1 male and 3 female guppies in a newly set up tank, one of the females gave birth to 5 fry a week ago and two days ago we notice her tail had split and it only got larger, she started sitting on the tank floor and hiding away then today when we came home she had died :( the other three adult guppies, our 2 bristle noses and our now 11 guppy fry seem healthy and happy. Looking all over the internet i can not seem to find an answer for what could of caused this. is it a disease? should i be worried about the other 15? is there anything i can do to stop this occuring again?

I don’t think it’s a disease. She probably caught the tail on something. Sometimes females just don’t bounce back after birthing. What are your water parameters and did you cycle your tank before adding fish?
