I went and caught another one on Saturday but my camera was not to hand.

I read that they live in pairs, so it must have been looking for the other when it didnt come home for dinner

If it was any other creature there would have been an uproar about the innocent killing of that animal, but because people are scared they think it's ok to kill the thing that frightens them. Spiders are still living creatures and there is no reason to be frightened of them (in the UK), if killing something or someone because you don't like it was exceptable behaviour then I'm sure most of the human race would no longer be here (you can't be liked by everyone). Maybe a bit more compassion for an animal that does more good than harm is needed.

Its either fight or fright when it comes to animals that can potentially kill you. Doesnt matter whether its a 2 inch spider or a 12 foot croc, its called instinct. We all know a small spider here in the highlands wont kill you but your brain tells you its something to fear naturally. There are lots of insects and other animals that can kill you in a few minutes and instinct is what kept us alive all those millions of years ago, and is still strong in most of us today. Even though rationally its nothing to get scared over it doesnt stop you killing it before it gets you.

Oh, and that *monster* that i couldnt catch the other night? My son told me just before i went to bed last night that he saw it go under my bed, and though he tried to kill it the shoe bounced off it. Didnt sleep well at all. :(

So if i find it i will try to catch and release.

When I was younger spiders used to crawl out of the drain of the tub at my nannies. Big ugly skinny spiders. we'd wash them down but they came back up later on.

From what I hear spiders don't breath like we do...so water doesn't kill them (you know ants can live underwater for a few days, or so I've heard). I knwo when you spray for bugs at your house..it never gets the spiders...not ever.

Only shoes work.

I can be unlucky til the day I die. I refuse to willingly let a spider live in my house. That is what fly swatters, glue traps, and insect spray is for...to kill all the other bugs you can't reach with a shoe.

Eh, that spider isn't that big. I just hate seeing wolfspiders when I'm camping. Those things are creepy.

Off topic: Did you know that Daddy Long legs are the most poisinous spider in the world (even more poisinous than the Black Widow)? They're fangs are too small to peirce our skin though.

i live in australia so i see tonnes of spiders, i have a few stories aswell

about 2 months ago i was getting ready for skool but i was going on an excursion so i was using my backpack and not my usual skool bag. i hadnt used it for a while and as soon as i unzipped it this freakin white-tail went straight towards my hand. i freaked only coz i no that they are pretty poisonous and i didnt wanna get bitten. so i shook it out my bag an squashed it.

anotha time there was a hunstman on the curtains (we get them all the time, and it was much larger than one of my hands) and i went for a closer look to freak out my brother coz he hates them. i yelled really loud and close to it to see wat reaction it would give me and it stood and flaring itself at me then leaped towards me. i jumped back then laughed and walked off while my bro was having a heart attack. im only not scared of them coz im so used to them. at my old house i used to love sucking them up in the ducted vacuum and hear the 'bump...............bump..............bump' of it going through the tube.

then there was the time where a red-back was like 2 cm away from my hand in the shed. this one freaked me out coz they are very poisonous

last one. i got in the shower and closed the door of it when a huge wolf spider was on the other side of the door on the glass. it was a bit too close for comfort so i quickly got out an squashed it with the shampoo bottle lol

I used to be terrified of spiders. When I had children I didn't want them to "catch" my fear. I pretended not to mind them and now I don't! I never kill them, I just catch them on a very long stick duster and put them outside. That's in the UK, if I lived abroad I would definitely kill them! :)

I had a big hairy 1 like that a couple of years ago. shorter but thicker legs.
Well it appeared from under the sofaand heads for the tv, I pack my pants and then realise I have to get rid it. so I chase it about and through it out of the door, end of.

Well no. Not quite, it came every night that week until I finally walked it to the end of my street.

I hate spiders but its harder to kill the big ones. :dunno:

holy crap! and I thought the black scorpions that I find in my house were bad! If I found something like that spider, I think I would be moving!

when u sleep keep yr mouth close or buy an gag ball so u wont eat the spider.......

to keep spider out of yr house to what disturb them is noise and bigger pets buy an cat or dog, i am sure when an dog see an spider bark that may get yr attention :)

nice spider btw

Better late than never I finally stumbled into this thread and saw those pics. And I had to look before bedtime, lol. He'd even give kitty second thoughts.
*running off to make sure cat is in patrol...* :)

Here's a tip if your afraid of spiders don't move to Australia!!!!

LOL, we live in between a paddock and a state forest... in Australia. :p

We get heaps of huntsmans here, my dad loves them and picks them up! They can grow to the diameter of a dinner plate but the ones dad 'adopts' are about the size of his hand. And they're all fat and hairy. I guess that's why dad loves 'em... they have similarities to him. Nah, seriously, they freak me out. :-(

The other day I decided to go out on the pool, so I got changed into togs, I grabbed the big blue LayZboy and floated into the middle of the pool on it. Just as I'm getting really relaxed, something chunky and hairy under my shoulders moves! :-( I screamed and sat up, and a massive huntsman spider was on the pillow of the LayZboy! It ran for me and I screamed again, jumped into the chilly water and ran inside.

To top it all off I slipped over on our tiles because I was running with wet, bare feet. :p

Caught this bad boy/girl yesterday. Wee sweetie  He/she was really quick too. Quick ones give me the willies :D
