Yep, that's a Common British House Spider Tegenaria domestica.

Funnily enough, I caught a large male in my kitchen sink this morning too, they get more active in Autumn.

It was so big I swear I could have saddled it and ridden it into town.

I caught him in a glass and dumped him 100 yards from the house.

Garden spiders are those really colourfull ones this a big abdomen that sit in the middle of the classic spiderweb.

I am sure that they have gotten bigger over the last few years, probably mating with those spiders that come over here in banana boxes

Crikey moly smoly ! Thats' ginormous (for Scotland ! )

I was under the impression thats lots of things were large and hairy in scotland .....men, cows and sporrans :hey:

 true ! too true

I get those too! I can't stand it! Small spiders are cute and I often name them Fred (comes from my mother who named and still does name EVERY spider that we see - even Tarantulas in zoos! Freddie!!)
However, my cat is a great spider catcher and has great fun patting them around and playing with them before munching on them!! It's really cute actually! Bless her! I'm really not a fan of the big ones and Black angel........aaaaaaarrrrgggghhhhh!!

am terrified of spiders

it looks like the one my neigbour had afew weeks ago!she came to our house at 11pm and asked my dad if he could come and help because there was a monster in the kitchen and she didnt dare go in the room,it looked just like that

I wouldn't put that in with MY fish..it mite bite one of them! *eeeeek*

That thing woudl SO be dead if it was at my house..of course someone else would have to kill it..as I wouldn't go anywhere near it.

Those green garden spiders...yeah those get sprayed with hornet spray. I have lady bugs, dragonflies, and preying mantis to eradicate my bug populsation..I need not for a spider .

Holy S*%#! That is a HUGE Spider!!!
I get the willies thinking about the one on the neck!
Mine get the death sentance by whatever I can find that's close by...
hairspray, pledge, my hubby.

Me too! The only way I catch spiders is with a very thick paper towel in which he gets squished. I know they are living beings but they shouldn't come in my house. I hate spiders too.

Now outside is a different matter. There was a very large "writing" spider (yellow and black, don't know the real name, that's just what we have always called them) in our back yard last year. He built his web every night between 2 pear trees. I went outside almost every night and watched him weave his web. It was cool to watch. I guess the dew got too heavey at night or the breeze tore it up because every morning the web was about gone. But every night, he was back. This went on for well over a month. I guess a bird or something finally got him.

I hate spiders too. We get ones that look similar. We call them wolf spiders here. Their bodies are a bit bigger though.

When I was in highschool a friend and I were in my basement doing a project for school that involved using my old Barbie furniture. A big house spider crawled out of the box. We both screamed. She then picked up the spider in her hand and started walking to my window chanting "I am not afraid of spiders I am not afraid of spiders". I asked her where she was going. She said she was going to put it out the window. My response...."But that window only opens at the top". She screamed and threw the spider in the air...Needless to say, I made her sleep on the floor that night.

We had smart house spiders at that house. I would see them scurrying across the floor out of the corner of my eye. So I would look at them and those darn things would stop moving and play dead until I looked away.

they are becoming more common @ that size and bigger.
When I was @ Co-opDrinks2U.com, they were coming out of the Air con and Dropping onto PC's. You should have heard the Screams.
They are Mutating Every Year.

I did Find a Shed skin and Mounted it onto a Glass Paperweight with Uhu. Management Made me Remove it, after No Women Would come near my Desk.

My Little little Brother Hates Spiders, when he was in Diapers. he was Chased along the Garden Path by a large Common House Spider. I mean it, the Damn Thing Chased him and he was Crawling away as fast as he could. I was In Hysterics of Laughter and Mum came out and Squished after hearing him Screaming.

I am Tempted to Buy 1 of those Chiliean Rose Tarantulas Mounted inside Glass - That would keep People Away from my Desk @ Work.

Well, i thought i had had my fair share of spiders this week. Obviously not.
Went shopping today and bought a small tub of raspberries.
Rinsed them off and put them in a bowl. Happily munching away and i pick up one and just hapen to look inside and what do i see staring back at me? you've guessed it a small green spider :X I'm just hoping it was the only one there, the thought of maybe eating one just doesnt bear thinking about  For some reason, i'm now totally off raspberries. :-(

I Had that Happen in Sainsburys Years Ago.
I picked up a Large bunch Of Bananas and Looked inside just incase.
And Sure enough a Large Brown Hairy Spider was Sitting there.

I legged it to the Nearest Checkout and shouted @ the Woman to open a bag So i could Seal the Bunch of bananas with the Spider in it. Then Took it to Customer Services and told them to Deal with it.

It happened again After that but it was a frog, I was not Gonna take my Chances that this was a Poison frog so did the Same thing.

But since then it has never Happened again, as the Packaging Company GEEST have made sure that all bananas are inspected for Foreign Animals.
