South American Biotope

i have a 40 gallon aquarium that im thinking of setting up, its one of the taller aquariums that has more height that width. i would like to stick with a south american theme. i want to use leaf litter substrate, bogwood, and maybe an amazon sword or 2. could someone give a few suggestions? i was thinking of the following:

1or2 angels
hatchet fish
cories
small pleco

i would like to here suggestions from others though because there are some many fish to choose from.

I do not know much about Hatchet fish but the Angels, Cories, and small Plec would be fine.
