Some Ideas For The Boys Tank Please

I really like the shorter finned betta, that are more like the wild betta. In the wild they are drab but when bred for color you get some nice looking fish.

This is not completely true as there are a lot of wild bettas that are anything but drab.  Examples like the one you shown are very close to what a lot of the wild splenden complex look like in the wild.

Either way my vote is a betta of some sort. :D

You're welcome, when the time comes, not sure if you're getting it online or not, aquabid has lots. You can just type in orange betta. I checked just now there are some lovely ones up but I think you still need to get the tank and cycle it first, but usually you'll see ones that look the same or close to it so you aren't missing anything by not being able to get it right now.

Thanks Wildbetta I think the general scope for it at the min is a nemo biotope of the dentists tank with a betta some cherries and some apple snails Ooooh fruity haha

It does look like it though the site google pulled it from listed it as a wild betta.

Wildbetta.....I have just been reading your care sheet and was wondering would he be better with a sponge filter as opposed to a normal spraybar type?? And will this make a difference to the shrimps and snails??

Sponge filters would be ok. Be careful with cherries though. Bettas love to eat them. My betta demolished his tank filled with yellow cherries. Although amanos are fast so they can evade.

Yes I have been warned :) if he starts snacking on them I have plenty of other tanks to move them to ;)

It was just that Wildbettas thread said their fins may get trapped in the filters so was thinking of a sponge instead

I personally prefer sponge filters with both bettas and shrimp. The flow is better for the betta and if your shrimp were to breed, the filter is safe for baby shrimp.  The snails are not going to care about  the type of filter.  It is very probable that your betta will eat the shrimp but there is a slim chance that he might leave them alone.   I have personally bought lots of bettas (and other aquatic animals/plants) off of aquabid.  I have had great experiences and only very rarely had any issues.  I have not ordered from overseas though I know of alot of people who have and had good experiences as well.  If you want to get one from a US breeder, let me know and I can connect you with some.

Oh thanks very much Wildbetta that would be brilliant

I think it will be a wait and see with the shrimp depending if he is "a grumpy old man" or not and I can always rehome the cherries in another tank if he doesn't get along with them
