So I Have This Empty Tank..

Hey folks!
 
After my last betta passed, I now have a empty 28 litre tank. My first instinct was to put another betta in it - but I'm not so sure!
I really LOVE fish like Goldfish, Koi, Butterfly Koi, but dont worry - I know the tanks far too small..
However, is there anything else like this thats smaller, and would fit the tank?
 
I've got livebearers such as mollies, platys, and swordtails already.
Is there any sort of fish, that is unique, and can either live on its own (Like the betta do) or live with a partner.
 
I particularly like dwarf gouramis (We have some downstairs, Love them!) but I'm not sure the tank size is suitable.
I also like Oscars, but the same thing applies - tank size?

A single dwarf puffer? Sand subtrate and need at 5 gallon minimum so you have that box ticked there.

Thanks for telling me where that is DerpPH! Just had a browse through the list.
Not many took my fancy, as I'm a rather picky person. So I kept going down the list..
And then I saw this:

Wow.
Absolutely stunning.
It says 1 male, 2 females. However other sites say a single one can't be housed in less than a 40litre.
Bit worried that the tank size isn't good enough.

A male sparkling gourami? Maybe 3 females too -MBOU knows how to sex them.

I would get another betta though, a local fish store has two that I really like, one that is fab with smaller fish, unfortunately I have Gouramis in all my other tanks bar my betta set up ;(

Only kidding, but size of the tank does limit choices.

I do already have two bettas And only ended up with the one who was in the tank thats now empty because I rescued him as he was dying in the LFS. Unfortunatly, he only lasted a few more days.

Having female bettas in a tank of that size would limit me to only 2, and two females in a small space are likely to fight with eachother, often one overpowering the other and stressing it out.

Ive never been too keen on dwarf puffers till the lfs got some in. They make me think of a creature from something like hitchikers guide, MiB, Spaceballs etc.

Actually, just realised what they remind me of. Evolution - the bit where the woman wonders if it is a stray dog in the cupboard?

I hope someone pipes up on the 'Bluefin Nothobranch' being able to fit or not fit in your tank, as I'd like to know as well. Looks absolutely stunning! Sorry no ideas for you, other than what has already been suggested

What are the actual dimensions of the the tank, rather than the volume?

Scarlet badis. You could house a trio of 2:1 female to male. Make sure the tank is WELL planted though.

Microrasbora galaxy is also a good choice! You can also have some shrimp in there. Your choice really. Im just suggesting.
