as most will know i have *had* an oscar a sev, choc cichlid and lastly added a uaru to the mix.. everything was perfectly ok for a short time, then the uaru took a dislike to the choc.. no idea why as he was no quiet, no competition for food etc

anyway cut a long story short, the uaru has killed my choc ( beat him badly but he died overnight in Q) but hes getting on famously with the sev and oscar no signs of aggression toward either of them... i dont understand it at all.. where was the need to hurt him so badly?

the fish are the same ones he lived with at the fish shop too :(

That's really weird. My 2 uaur are the most laid back fish. Maybe it has something to do with the fact you only got one uaur. I don't know just an idea. Sorry for your lose that does stink. Hope the others do well.

actually i was advised by minx to have a group, i would have if i could have found more than one.. theyre just not "everyday" fish where i live.. was planning another tank and a few more.. just cant understand why he took so badly against the choc and no one else... its a shame your not closer you could have him with yours :(

Yeah that is weird. Just a freak thing I guess. You know how crazy cichlids can be. I'm sure you could find someone that would take him. But if you are setting up another large tank maybe you could start looking for a friend for him. They are cool fish.

Poor little choccie, RIP budddy. I think you just have a freak aggressive uaru or it just didnt like the chocolate, cichlids are the most fascinating but confusing fish at times.

Sorry to hear you lost your choccy  I am shocked I thought urau were a more gentle cichlid too.

Thanks all .. Just my luck to get a rogue fish.. Will look at rehoming him, but before I do that ill pop into MHA and see if they can order me at least one more.. But he will be advertised in the meantime

My experience with mine also. I think the fact that he's a lone uaru is certainly a good theory as to why he may have behaved like that.

ok fair enough, but why the choc? why not the sev or the oscar? im determened to get an answer to this lol

OH Iam sorry shelagh, thats annoying, fish esp cichlids can be evil, the reason he chose the choc was probally at a guess because he managed to control the other two,yet choccy wouldnt alow it, mine was peaceful but would not take any abuse from anything, and the pack thing is quite true,i have that solo spotted silver dollar and he can be evil, which i have read alot that keeping them singular can lead to more aggrestion from them, also that bycron i have would constantly attack every fish in my five foot, stuck him in with choccy and there is no aggresstion what so ever, its odd but good for me as there best buddys

yeah it seems like the chocolate did not see eye to eye and they must have just bumped heads and could now work it out. Cichlids have too much personality and some time they just don't like eachother. Like my parrot and green severum they hate eachother.

thanks all. i think youve covered what i needed to know

the rest of the tank is in perfect harmony and the uaru is exceptionally happy, so yes what you say stands to reason.. just a shame it cost the life of such a lovely fish.
thanks again
