Yep they do,i see them hanging around under the waterline,before venturing back down again.

Lunged rather than gilled - pond snail.

Please define,i know nowt about snails
I quite like them,better than i like pest snails anyway and pretty good with the algae would they eat pest snails?

As said its a pond snail, apparently these guys are classed as 'pest' snails due to there breeding habits, that said i have 3-4 in my 30 gal and there numbers haven't risen but i suppose the eggs may have been snacks

do you mean earth crawler snails? assasin snails eat the other snails in aquarium.

I dont know much more than that some come up for air, some have gills lol. They dont eat pest snails like assassins but can become pests themselves but you know better than to overfeed, etc.

I dont know much more than that some come up for air, some have gills lol. They dont eat pest snails like assassins but can become pests themselves but you know better than to overfeed, etc.

Ok thanks for your help i try not to overfeed,i have a couple of pest snails dotted but nothing major

I've got a couple of those lurking around. I think they're commonly known as 'bladder' or 'tadpole' snails and are in the genus Physidae.

They are indeed pest snails; mine never seem to go as mad breeding as the little red ramshorn ones (but I don't have snail problems in any of my tanks; just some snails )

These are the only type of pest snails I seem to get in my tank, from plants I assume They start out teeny tiny like little flat brown spirals but I've missed some before and they seem to develop that cone/spiral shape as they get larger. Never seen one quite this big though!

I've never seen the flat spiral ones get very big meself,and these appeared just after i got the plants around 6-8 weeks ago and have gradually got bigger with the help of the algae i keep on the back of the tank for the oto's.

Weird! Maybe I'm wrong then. I just assumed they were the same since I'd know if I put one of those big guys into the tank on a plant!

I've got both pond snails and ramshorn that hitchhiked on some plants months ago. Then I had a population explosion because I was overfeeding and didn't realize it. I got some assassin snails that really cut down the numbers, as did NOT overfeeding, and the numbers I have now are just enough to be entertaining. I kinda like the little guys.

In limited numbers, of course.
