Snail Eggs

Hi everyone......I suppose this is very common to some of yous, but for me this is an amazing find I have only had this happen to me twice and it blows me away every time I find these on my tank. My apple snails have laid eggs out of the water....most the the other species of snails I have lay their eggs inside the tank under water, but these guys go to dry ground to lay. Just thought I'd share this with some of you that have never experienced it before.

This brings me to a question for the ones who are very familiar with apple snails. I can't think of the scientific name for it but do these snails start life needing a male and female to breed or can they be both sexes in one if you can understand what I mean.

WOW!! I'd love to have mine mate. We initially bought 2, then the !@#$% filter intake sucked one in and killed it

At the moment my assassin snails are apparently having an orgy and laying eggs all over the place.

Assassin snails? sounds dangerous.. ..I haven't seen one here in Australia. Maybe we aren't allowed to have them.....theres a lot we aren't allowed

apple snails lay their eggs where they can drop into the water when they hatch. mine hatched almost every time, and the fish ate the baby snails as they dropped into the water.. bratly cichla.. lol.

Apples snails are male and female and are hatched as such, they do not change sex so you will need a male and female to have eggss. The female can store sperm for upto 3 months so having a pair does not mean they are 100% male and female.

Ohhh lucky me to have a male and female.....I don't know who the culprit was that laid the eggs but I have this golf ball size snail which was on its own for a very long time. Then just last fortnight I put a new one in the tank and presto! I was wondering how you would tell the males from the females.....not as easy as lifting up a tail and checking under it....just joking

Yes I was lucky enough to witness the hatching of a batch of eggs ages ago. I was thinking of putting a fry trap under them this time so they don't become a meal for my fish.

You might not have pair If you just added a snail and now you have eggs she may have got pregnant in the LFS but could not lay due to conditions. you can sex them by holding them, blow gently see id can get the snail to come out if its shell, if they lower their head you can see a penis sheath

Crikey! sounds a bit fiddley...so no penis sheath means its a female and if I see uhmmm one its a male...ok I'll try and give it a go
