nerite snails… reproduction…

so, supposedly they need brackish or salt water to complete the development during reproduction… I have had them lay eggs all over a couple tanks, with no signs of hatching… so, it takes brackish water for the eggs to develope??? I’m curious just how alkaline they need??? my well water is rock hard and very alkaline ( well over 8.5 ph ) I’m wondering if that’s close to what is needed to complete the reproduction cycle??? anyone know???

It's salt, sodium chloride, they need not hardness, which is calcium and magnesium.

I added 8 horned nerites to a brackish tank (1.015 sg) thinking they'd breed but while they left eggs all over the place none of them hatched. Or maybe they did, and the eel ate them. At the time they were difficult to get and I was hoping to be able to breed them for store credit but.....c'est la vie. At least they cleaned up the tank.

The website casts doubt over reports of nerite longevity so I'll share my experience.

I bought 2 zebra and 2 'red onion' nerites from an eBay seller on 4 August 2020. One of each has died but the other two are still alive 6 years later.
I bought a wagaiensis from another eBay seller on 19 October 2021; a Clithon species from a local shop on 11 May 2022 and a black helmet from eBay on 10 May 2023. All these are still alive.
