small flies in tank

i have recently noticed that i have been getting lots of small flies appearing under my fishtank lid.

i keep on getting rid of the ones i see, but they keep coming back.

how can i get rid of them and how did they get there?#

Fruit flies, or gnats I would say..

bably gnats because they lay their eggs on water don't they?

i think it may be something to do with the water but i cant see any visible larvae in the water

I don't know if they're the same, but I get them around my plants when someone waters them with something silly and they grow mould. Maybe they like the humidity? Depending on the fish, could you take of the lid for a few days and see what happens?
