Its good that you have a backup plan, as its purely down to luck with Bettas, but as it is in a tank with barbs already - you might have a docile one. Does it look like it has been nipped much? Look forward to the photos.

Hi all.
I went to the shop, my betta has gone. Someone must have bought him. I hope he went to a good home.
He didn't seem to have been nipped much at all the last time I saw him.

I ended up buying a denim blue vt who has settled in nicely with my platties and tetras. He pretty much ignores the tets.
He flared at the platties when I first put them in but now he pretty much ignores them too.

In the store he was in a small glass tank around 9" square with another betta right next to him in a tank the same size.

The other betta was flaring trying to get to him but my little guy was hiding away in the plants and didn't flare back once.
I took this as a sign he was a bit docile. I hope I'm right.
I'll add some pics when I get home from work and you can all help me choose a name for him if you like :)

Hi there. Welcome toe the Betta appreciation society lol. Most Bettas are kept with little to no fish in their environment. They are aggressive and territorial. I have kept small fish with them, like Pygmy Corey's and Norman lamp eyes. But he picked them off one by one. Large corydoras seem to work and a 60 litre tank would house 3 Corey's and a Betta nicely. Other tank mates include apple snails, and octolinius. So a Betta, an oto and a snail would be a good combination. I have always known mollies to be a bit nippy, not just to Bettas, but they bully plates too. Anything with bright colours is a mono with a Betta as he will see them as another male Betta and there will be carnage. Keep your 90 litre tank for the mollies and plates, and the 60 l for the Betta, heavily planted ( real or silk plants is best...no plastic plants as they will tear his fins). No enough hide holes will cause stress so plenty of cover. Include an almond leaf ( specialised , but easily bought from eBay) as it helps it's ability to fight germs.
Hope that helps x

Sorry to hear you missed out on the boy you wanted  However,- congrats on your new addition! Great to hear he's settling in so well! :D

He's quite an interactive little chap.
When I walk in the room he swims to the front of the tank and watches me...
I wonder what he'll make of me wiring up the timer for his lights later on tonight.
