Should I Get A 55 Gallon Tank?

ok, so...


im on the fence if i should get a 55 gallon tank, or a 40 gallon tank. i can fit a 40 gallon tank perfectly between my model display case and the edge of the stand i have my current tank on.

But... if im going to go big, i should go big, but for me to get a 55 gallon tank i would have to move the white stand that the tank is on now over to the left about 10 inches ( see picture ) and then move my model display case down towards the cubbies but since i moved the white case down there would be a 10 inch gap between the cubbies and the white case, so i would have to make a shelf to fill the gap so i can move the model display case down, thats the only way id be able to have a 55 gallon tank...

so, would it really make that big of a difference between a 40 gallon and a 55 gallon tank? also, i only have a 10 gallon tank now, how much of a difference would it be to own a 55 gallon tank after only having to take care of a 10 gallon tank?

I'd say a 55 would look awesome in the middle of that white stand. Perhaps you could do some custom remodeling on the shelf to the right and make the top 4 squares into one open square (remove the +, if you know what I'm saying). You could probably fit your model display case in that.

Silly question, the 55gal obviously. Getting the largest tank you can, is the only way to temporarily alleviate MTS.

Multiple tank syndrome I thought it was? Get the 55g but make sure your desk/bench/wooden structure thing can take the weight of it comfortably.

i asked my step dad how much weight he thinks that stand can hold, he said probably 1000 pounds...


its inch thick particle board... strong stuff no doubt...

55G tank - 40kg
water - 210kg
substrate - 25-40kg
hardscape - 1kg-5kg

so your looking at about 300kg or 660 pounds i personally dont think it would take it without any modifications

the maintenance on a 55 compared to a 10 is quite a lot you will be changing a lot more water in water changes but you will be able to have more fish top your loach schools up

think I have to agree with the weight issue I nearly put my 30 on a similar unit but decided not to risk it.

I have a 25 gallon upstairs, but a 55g would definitely be pushing it.

Imagine, about 700lbs upstairs. Definitely not a wise move.

nah i live in a one story house.. it was built in the 50's... its a brick house, solid as... well a brick

im not concerned with weight, just the huge jump from a 10 gallon to something 5 times that big...
