Should I Get A 55 Gallon Tank?

Get the 55Gal you know you want to. I did the same in the sales this year, went for a 33 gallon fluval roma, came home with a 200 litre 55 gallon tank. Best decision I made in fishkeeping. The options for what you can keep in the tank just spring open!

meh i think itll hold up fine

its a big risk to take, at the very least look into strengthening the cupboard.

i have spent time working as a Structural Engineer and i wouldn't risk it without strengthening work.

imo the biggest risk wouldn't be the cupboard collapsing but having one section settle more than the rest of it, that would put a huge amount of strain on the tank and possibly cause it to crack

Lay a 2inch or so thick layer of foam underneath the fish tank. When you add water the foam will absorb more weight in the areas where it isn't level, thanks to the physical properties of liquids and gravity, and it will become level. This will help to distribute the load evenly.

edit: use a hard foam/rubber (polystyrene or harder), not the super squishy stuff used for sponges

The stand that came with my roma 200 is only chipboard and it's strong enough.
