Should I Get A 10 Gallon Or 20-30?

Unless his tank suffered from some severe disease issues before he shut it down, then I would say it's safe. If the filter has been running with some sort of fish, or other stuff in the tank, the filter itself should have some great bacteria for you though (assuming you are getting some media as well). I would get whatever you could... some gravel, some filter media, etc. Go for it!

And I sold one of my old 3 gallon tanks for $40

And stocking ideas once its cycled?
