Should I Clean Out My Filter?

Last night my filter got so loud i couldnt even sleep so im wondering whether to give it a good clean??

What type of filter are we talking about?

internal or external?

also have you ever cleaned the filter before?

Internal, Yeah ive cleaned it before in a bucket of tank water the amount of dirt that came out of it was unbelievable. < No fish died

You should clean it during your weekly water change to maintain optimum performance.

Ok is it fully submerged?

If yes then yes id reccomend you take a bucket and syphon some tank water into bucket,then rinse the sponges in the tank water,replace and try again,

If it still makes a noise, check the impeller for muck caught up in it,it pulls out easy enough as its like magnetic

Yeah its submerged, Ill clean it out nxt week after a water change. Thanks

You want to try to make a cleaning schedule for your tank(s) and try to stick to it.

I clean my filters, tank them all apart, once a month.
