Should I Breed Them?

i wouldn't be so surprised to hear they bred so shortly after purchase, accidental and poorly planned spawnings usually happen faster than planned for spawnings. but that doesn't mean that you should have done it, there was certainly no responsible planning done for this breeding.

it's not that anyone is really AGAINST you breeding fish, they just think it needs to be done with much more care and consideration for the welfare of the animals involved. Veiltails are pretty, no one is debating that, but you are breeding the fish equivalent of your common housecat or generic yellow dog. Sure, we love our pets, but that doesn't mean there's any reason for them to reproduce. You can't know what you're getting out of that deal and beyond the fact that almost all petshop bettas (VT or otherwise) are genetic mutts, most are completely useless for breeding, the reds all have iridescence and the iridescents all have red wash. These are undesireable traits.

Obviously nobody can stop you, but maybe you should step back a moment and rationalize things. Have you tlaked this over with your parents truthfully? Breeding bettas especially is not something that should be done without your parents' permission because it's going to cost them a LOT of money. That's why you are so much better off buying a nice pair off of aquabid if you are set on breeding because you can sell them for 5-15 dollars easy, and the buyer will pay for shipping and shipping materials, as well as taking the fish off your hands LONG before a petshop would be willing to, and for more money.

[edit] also in those pictures i see you bred a blue fish to a red fish. never never breed a blue, green, turquoise, or steel blue fish with a red fish!

If you are reffering to the 2nd picture 2nd row, thats them breeding with the bubble nest.

They might be eggs... but if so, the male isn't doing his job of picking them up, and the bubble nest looks fairly empty of eggs.

I am not an expert, but surely 4 days is too short to settle a pair of bettas in and condition them for breeding? Can you expect them to do a good parenting job at such short notice? I thought conditioning was a slow and careful business?

It is. But Miss Thang here decided to breed them even though he knew we said no. So it was basically I want your opinion but I ain't gonna follow it thing. So Mr.Expert here apparently is soooooo pro at spawning he doesn't care wether they're VTs, conditioned or anything important for that matter.

I was going to say something about that. One of the early pictures of "should i spawn these" was of the fish already in a spawn tank together. not sure why he bothered asking us if he'd already put them together.

His other questions are all ones that are in the stickies too.

92: why do you bother asking us if you're not going to listen anyways? There's lots of helpful stickies at the top of this forum that will answer most of your questions (and the others you don't really listen anyways).

People's advice here was for the helping the health and wellbeing of your fish.

Neither of those fish seem to be in very good condition... :/ You should never breed fish without conditioning them first, veiltails or not, It can be detrimental to both the parents and the fry.

My point exactly :sly:

and 92, don't freaking PM me about "making a free fun betta site" when you don't even know anything and just because you're a teen doesn't mean I like you.

he was PMing SPAM about his site too eh? Did the same thing to me and I imagine countless others. report him to wuv. she told me she'd ban him but never did. maybe if you report him also she will do what's right.

ya im new to this thread so i just have one thing to say or maybe two, Dont breed the bettas cause if you get a succeful breed their just going to die or the males will fight to death. What 92 were you going to do with the ones you couldnt sell? Keep them with your school schedual it will be hard to care for them. I bet you go out with your friends and stuff so what are you going to do when you go out with them and forget to feed your fish?
Just hear me out 92 stop trying to breed them or there will be dire consequences.
