So the kids want to go and pick some shells up from the beach and put them in the tank
Can these safely go in a tropical tank if i boil them first

Should be fine. Just make sure you don't add too many or else it will raise the pH

thanks for that

yes i already told them they can only have 2 nice ones each if i find out it wont hurt the fish

So now i know they can go with daddy and pic lots up , bring home and choose the best

Thanks

Sarah xx

A couple won't be a problem, but as they dissolve over time, they might start looking bad. My aunt uses shells in her freshwater tank, and over time the outer part of the shell falls apart, leaving the inner spiral (which would also dissolve eventually, but she throws them out and gets new ones). If the beach is in convenient distance, though, it should be easy to replace them.

i'm in devon and have several beaches with 15 miles with the closest being 7 miles away so the kids are going to love this
I thought maybe get them to get a big bag then they can pick the ones they want and store the rest till later .

There are some lovely shells on one of the beaches due to the fishermen dumping the unwanted ones there are usually large crab shells but thats going too far lmao

maybe i should collect some of the large crab ones and sell them mmmmmmmm lmao

...unless you mean hermit crab shells. Regular crab 'shells' (i think they're called exoskeletons) will rot as Tyler said.
