Hi all,

Still looking to fill a 13 (US) gal tank and I've recently become interested in Cichlids so I want to have some if possible. Using Google I've found an article talking about Shell Dwelling Cichlids and it says they are suitable for a 10 gal setup.

Does anyone have experience keeping any of these? My pH is around 8 and I'd like a fish that is pretty hardy if possible.

I am also interested in shellies and have heard that smaller tanks are ideal.
Shelldwellers are possibly the smallest cichlids (some shelldwellers at least) and CAN be kept in small tanks. But I've never heard anyone have problems because the tank was to big for their fish.

In this hobby bigger is always better.

They want hard water so 8 is good.

The ones i keep are Lamprologus similis, you can read more here (shameless self promotion):
