Hi,

Is the sand in your avatar argos sand or another type? It looks nice and light.

Thanks, :good:

hows the stand...have u set it all up yet ?...have gravel much nicer...lol

hia yes it is argos playsand, it was really cloudy at first as i didnt wash it properly, but its beautiful now... but spend as much time as you can rinsing it, half a bucket at a time, even less if you can it`ll all be worth it in the end i promise :) and when filling the tank, be sure to place a small plate in the bottom on top of the sand, so it wont go flying everywhere

Hi ya, stand is briliant thanks. Setting up after I come back from a course i'm on in 3 weeks time.
Been planning changing over to sand for weeks now, just got round to buying argos sand, but it's quite dark and I think I'll get silversand tomorrow.

From people's photos it looks as if maybe args have changed he colour, unless it's all to do with the light!

May end up testing out both!!

Jackie

put a bit in a bucket and put lights on top...you can see then if its wat u want....

by the way did you go to my lfs and have allok...ive just bought most of there plecs of them...lol...got the breeding tanks full up now...just waiting for nature to take hold...lol

it will be the light, in doresys tank pics i think the lights are on, and in my avatar the lights were off and i used the flash on the camera, but i have been buying it for years for the kids and i havent seen any diffrence to be honest,it will look just the same in your tank, fill a vase or similar try both filled with water and stand in similar lighting to see which you prefer, but there is also a diffrence to the colour of the whole tank with/without plants in,i found without, tank looked very "pinkish" and with it looked great. good luck hope you can make a descision easier than me lol

When in its dry form it will look a strong orange colour :) just have faith. Also, alot of people say it took a while for there tanks to clear up? I had crystal water after about 20 mins with some fresh floss in it :) (Bare in mind I do run twin eheim filters though)...Gave mine a 5 min wash, just cut a hole in the bag and shoved the hose right down to the bottom.

If you clean it VERy well before you add it into your tank it wont really cloud up as much. When i added playsand, it was slighlty cloudy for a short period of time.

Hi guys thanks for all your ideas. I've put some in my hospital tank and it looks great!! No need to go to lfs tomorrow.

Weisel, poppedinto that shop OMG what a selection of fish they have. Never seen quite a few of them either. Almost went home with new Betta, and pygmy corys. Think I'll go for a small shoal in Discus tank, they look brill!

jaycat, which type of pygmy cory were you looking at? Was it pygmeus or habrosus or hastatus? All 3 are about the same size but my experience is only with habrosus. They are a lot of fun in a tank but I say that with a group of 6 in a 45 gallon with my endlers and a group of 9 in a 29 gallon fry tank. In the fry tank they leave the fry alone and swim all over the tank like they owned it. In the endler tank they swim around and join in the constant motion that is an endler's trade mark. In the endler tank they also leave the very small endler fry alone so they are no threat there either. These guys are great.

we do get a good selection in my shop...i get on with the people very well in the shop so when im reading through these sites and stuff i keep my eyes open for what people are after and i get him to order them...he keeps tomany guppies and neons and stuff for my liking but thats what people want round here...something easy to keep...got some nice plecos in at the mo...bought most of them tho...lol

the pygmys that I saw were pygmeus. Hope that are ok for Discus tank. Saw them at St Albans, never seen them before. Thought small shoal would be great, about 6.

55g tank.

At the size that they get, you could even go to 10 or 12 and not create much of a bioload. In the wild, shoals of cories run from hundreds to thousands which is why they should always be kept in groups for their health.
