Severum Stocking Help.

Liveaquaria is wrong. Minimum tank size is 55 gallons for 1 Sev IMHO. I do have 2 Sevs in a 75 gallon. Mine are buddies, possibly a pair. I have some Tinfoils I need to move out of there to the pond we are building. Currently I am filtering more than double while I get it all set up. In the near future these two will be housed alone in the tank and we will see what happens. You could skip on the Severum, but I do highly recommend them and just one will not bore you....they are very personable.

He wants to know if they need 75 Imperial gallons or 75 US gallons.

My tank is over 100 Imperial Gallons,so Im safe either way :p

ok i guess i will have to wait to finalize my stock.

i do like the sev. and would defintely like to have a couple of other cichild in there.

just because it fell off the page, i am looking to stock:
1 severum
1 blue acara
1 firemouth
8 cories
2 pleco

in a:
75 USG tank
48"x18"x21"

75 USG is recommended i have a sev in a 55 USG with an electric blue jack dempsey juvies now but should be fine minx recommended 75 min but i dont remember about tank mates imo you should be fine

Also sent this via pm :)

Its my opinion that a single severum requires a 75 usg tank, so you are fine with one, you can easily have another cichlid, so a blue acara would be fine too, the firemouth will be the one that you may have problems with, purely because they can, even singularly, be aggressive, so he would be trial and error, you are fine with corydoras for the bottom and I see no problems with 2 small sized plecs, obviousy not a large common/sailfin pleco.

Hope that helps.

No I said a 75g (us) tank, usually they are around the 4ft mark, providing they are not tall tanks, making the width too small, then they are fine. It doesnt mean that you can only have a severum in the 75g, its because they require the turning room that a 75g is recommended, a 55g is usually too narrow for them.

I dont understand why the arguments here regarding uk/us gallons etc. The stocking suggested is fine for the dimensions of the tank given.

Well I only work in us gallons, dont do imperial. 250L works out roughly 66usg, whats the litreage of this tank then?

Edit: 48 x 18 x 21 = 297L = 79 usg.

Yep but as I edited above its 297 Litres = 79 USG :good: Those are the dimensions Ive taken from the first post, assuming they are correct.

Most tank sizes are estimates, they dont take the substrate height, water displacement etc into account, so usually your going on the tank dimensions to work it out, take away abit and you have volumne.

Im only going on the dimensions given, not the photograph, photo angles etc can make tanks look large/smaller etc, I know in my photos of my rio 400 it looks tiny, but it isnt.

Anyway to clarify, so long as the tank is 48 x 18 x 21 (L x W x H), then its 79 USG and is fine for the suggested stocking IMO.

Edit: Does the venezia come in a 450L tank, thought the largest was the corner 350L? If they do a larger one, would be interested :)
