Severum Stocking Help.

ok here is what i am leaning towards now:
1 severum
12 cories 4x3 varities
12 columbian tets
8 torquise rainbow
2 pibull plecos

any comments?

You could check out Aquabid.com for the Severum.

Definitely go with the bigger Tetras ! My Sev even picked on a good size Rainbow. Looked like lunch to him ! If you get the Sev small and let them grow together you will have a much better chance.

aquabid wants too much IMO.
the sev i am going to buy is 2" long. seems to be the smallest i can find.
i thought rainbows were bigger than the tets.......
what would be a "bigger tetras"?

I meant bigger than the Rummynose. Congos come to mind, they get to 3". I had 6 Rainbows and one of them didn't grow like the others and was getting picked on. Runt of the tank. My Sev is close to 9". Other than that it probably would have been okay.

Yeah Aquabid is pricey. Its the overnight shipping that's a killer.

would i be able to house a breeding pair of rokteils in a 75g long term? im thinking 1 severum would get boring

They would be more comfortable in a 100g...depends how much you love your sevs :)

ok how about:

1 severum
1 blue acara
1 firemouth
8 rainbow fish
10 cories.
comments?

You could go with Polka Dot Pictus Cats instead of the Cories. I think a pair of Keyholes may be an option also.

Have you thought about a Pearl Eartheater? the Male is amazing (the fish on the right of my signature)

They grow to around 11" on average, great character.

Kribensis are great to if you find some good quality ones (trust me its worth searching,my female thats in my avatar is stunning)

I find Keyholes a bit boring.

Definitley go with the Rainbows and Corys, awesome fish.

Blue Acaras and Firemouths are great to

i did look at the eartheaters, but i decided that they get too big. i want 1 big fish the severum as the centerpiece.
i too was not
i was looking at the torquise rainbow fish seem to get to a decent size. should be nice dithers.
i will have to look into the kribs, but i think with what i have listed there will be no more room when the other cichild get big.

does anyone see any aggression issues?

Nah,Cichlid aggression is overrated, look at my tank pics thread and youll see my tank is always jam packed with Cichlids :p

Trust me Kribs will hold there own, mine are currently breeding and my 2" male Krib trys to beat up my 9" Male Severum! None of my stock pick fights, they just squabble noq and then...aslong as you put in some caves of some sort youll have no bother.

All the cichlids you listed are tame,Firemouths can have there moments, but trust me they are all bark and no bite, they love a squabble but tend to swim off rather than actually fight.

Fm's are alot like Convicts but nowhere near as agressive.

Convicts are one of my fave fish but everytime I have tried to have them they end up beating something up so i gave up with them, they seem to HATE Fms.

I think the rule of the thumb with cichlid crowding/communitys is to pick all semi agressive specimens...no aggressive ie: convicts and no placid ie: Rams,Keyholes.

I do the same in my marine tank also...everyone told me not to,but it works brilliantly i stocked Clarkii Clown,Strawberry Dottyback,Humbug Damsel,Azure Damsel,Yellow tang...all semi aggressive fish, makes for a more interesting tank.

do you think i have room for 1 more cichild? keep in mind this IS a long term tank.

ok i checked out the kribs. claims they are peaceful...........i also read u r not suppose to mix nw and african species together, maybe i read that wrong.
unfortunately the kribs do not ship with a live shipping guarantee. so they are pretty much out for me.
