Hello Folks

All excited today, got delivery of ex1200 ... It took me ages to set it up, making sure I had everything water tight. It took me hours to get this sorted from having to cut out some of the lid on the tank to fit the pipes. Then when I went to purge it I realised I had the pipes setup wrong, What a numpty!!!!!....

Now I have it setup I still have my fluval U4 running. Should I empty all the media into the ex1200 ? would that cause it to do a mini cycle?

I am a bit concerned about the water flow from the outlet as my Gouramis are laying low at the bottom of the tank. I'm thinking there is too much current in the tank...

Also I have filled the tank up in order to cover the outlet spray bar so the water flow isn't splashing right into the tank, and turned the flow down on the outlet valve..... Is this OK to do ????

I know there are a few of you out there in TFF land that have the same filter, so looking for advice on these qu's please.......

Cheers

The spray bar should be about an inch below the surface of the water so to create a slight rippling effect.

The flow can be adjusted slightly by turning both the green taps. You can also drill the holes bigger in the spray bar. Also if you have any you can add extra floss to the filter.

Add the media from the u4 to the bottom tray of the filter and make use of the extra internal space. No reason why it should kick start a mini cycle.

Thanks have switched over everything so fingers crossed.

I have a 180 litre and found the flow a bit strong. I removed the spray bar completely so it just flows across the length of my tank through the u bend pipe.

You will get more flow with the spray bar off, but with it on it will be more concentrated as the holes are tiny.

I used to run 2 1200's on my 180. :D

Maybe you could open up the spray bar holes a little with a simple drill bit. If the spray flow is too fast, it would not take much change to make it a more leisurely flow pattern.
