Also known as dinosaur bichirs.

Would one of these be okay in my 55 gallon tank with a red tailed shark, bueno aries tetra, tiger barb, and angel fish?

It will be fine in a 55, but will eventually get large enough to eat everything but the angel.

It'd definitely eat everything but the angel. These guys have huge mouths, they'll eat anything they can get their jaws around. Mine began downing giant danios, tiger barbs, and buenos aires tetras at about 6 inches. I had to get rid of them and get silver dollars for my schooling fish instead. Eventually the dinosaur bichir was the one I rehomed. Wasn't really worth it.

Wow really good to know! I was really close to getting one the other day :p

What bottom fish would you recommend with what I have at the moment? Like clown loaches? Anything else?

Your tank is far too small for clown loaches. They need tanks of 6ft+... Zebra loaches would be a good alternative :)

Iv kept 3 Senegal birchirs and the only other fish of mine that it ate was neons and a swordtail. 2 of my senegals were 7 inches and one was closer to 9 inches.

I had a delhezi birchir that was around 6 inches and it didn't touch a thing up to that point.

I now have a 10-11 inch Ornate Birchir that I did keep with 8 buenos aires tetras and he did eat one of them but it was the smallest one that was only around an inch in length, maybe less. I have recently rehomed the rest of the tetras as I didn't want to chance him eating anymore although they were together for a few months with only the one loss. He is more interested in prawns lol
