I got nothing on this weekend so thought I would have a go at doing my own 3d background. what I want to know have any of you bought sealant from screwfix or toolstation that is safe for aquariums/fish? mainly want to use it to stick the polystyrene together and also attach to the glass.

I know you can get selants in LFS but the LFS near me only does small tubes not the big application gun type tubes.

I saw on a youtube video that food grade sealant is ok for fish, toolstation do one here

Easiest place ive found is ebay, the sealant youve listed from toolstation i wouldn't use due the the "anti fungal growth characteristics". It MAY be ok but personally i wouldnt risk it.

last time i looked on the site
i couldn't find one that was suitable
for repairing fish tanks they have to be
100% silicone with no fungicide and mold preventer

thanks for the replies guys :good: , thats a shame as both stores are quite local to me and I would have been able to start my background this weekend but I dont want to take chances, so I will order it off ebay then and do the background over the christmas break.

sorry just in case anyone reading this - must be safe aquarium silicone sealant not any old DIY shop double glazing silicone as that's toxic to fish etc

You can get it try Maidenhead Aquatics they do mastic tubes (gun application) of the stuff its quite dead thou £10 or bit less i think. Or at least they used to sell it
