(There is an opposite side to this coin, which is the stress involved when things aren't going as they should - which is where this forum comes in handy! ;)  )

I thought about that opposite side as well. Those days when the gills are not at their normal rhythm and you wonder what's wrong. Stress!

I could (and do!) Spend hours watching my fish, it drives my other half mad! Its a soothing feeling watching them swimming about in the little world you made for them :) very satisfying, as you both said, when things are going well!!

Nice to see this confirmed really :)

This is why, in UK anyway, there are fish tanks in some hospitals and dentist in waiting rooms for patients to look at and this probably calms the nerves for many.

My husband was not a huge fan of the aquatics when I started keeping them....he tolerated them but didn't have an active interest.

Through out the years I have caught him time and again sitting on the couch with the TV off just watching them and as of late he has started asking questions about species, habits, different foods etc.

We are expecting our first this November and I asked him if he would prefer moving our 72 gallon bow front down stairs and out of the main living room to make room for toys etc. He was adamant about not moving the tank - said he can only imagine how much our daughter is going to love the moving colors :)

Just out of curiosity, how long have you had the tank set up?

I have had the 72 gallon bow tank going on 6 years but have had a few different stocks through out that time. Finally settled into a set up with goldfish - (I seemed to always keep coming back to them so I decided it was just where my tank was meant to be lol)

I'm setting up a 75 gallon up stairs at my house and I'm still worried about it being upstairs. Was yours upstairs for the entire 6 years?

Since we moved into this house 4 years ago this month, yes. I have a raised ranch so the "upstairs" is our main living area. I have hardwood floors and it is on an interior wall.

Thanks. Just checking. I want that calming effect in my study so I've got to get the tank set up soon! We're finally to a point with moving, and all that I feel I am organized enough to do it. It's a reef tank. The rocks are sitting on a sheet on my floor waiting to be cemented together and placed into the tank. I've got all the parts.

Can't wait for a thread on it!

I third it! The rock design I have must be cemented. In the past I've just stacked and that was enough. But this tank will be unique.
Since I started this thread I guess I'm not technically hijacking it.
