okay this is a true story that happened last night at my house.

last night we had some terrible thunderstorms. my husband is a building contractor and got a call last night that a friend of his had torn off a roof at an office building. he knew it was supposed to rain so he had thought that he had made the open roof watertight. well, needless to say he had not and the water was pouring in on the offices. quite a mess! the acoustical tiles were melting and sagging from the weight of the water, wallpaper was peeling off the walls and the carpet had standing water on it. so jeff was off to see if he could help out his buddy.

while getting ready to go the transformer in our backyard and the two neighbors yards blew. the whole sky light up like a christmas tree and there were sparks everywhere. our electricity went out. we decided instead of sitting there in the dark, we would go with him. besides, i was going to be redoing the wallpaper for the job anyways, so i thought that it would kinda kill two birds with one stone to see the work needed to be done. so the whole family got ready to go. we were hunting around in the dark for the kids shoes and raincoats. we were all ready to go and i thought about my large 180 in the basement. ready to walk out the door and i make everyone stop so i can go and check on my tanks. i have all the tanks on a designated circuit breaker. we had just had the electric redone last winter and i made this specification. so i made everyone wait in the living room so i would not be alone in the dark house by myself while i checked them out. did not like the thought of being in the house all alone like that.

a little background break. my mom passed away 17 years ago. i keep on teasing my husband that my mom is in the house. we have had some strange things happen in the house and i explain it by the fact that she is there. this always makes him especially nervous while these things are happening.

so, back to the story. i went into the basement and checked out all the tanks. all of the filters and aerators were working fine. at first i did not think anything of it. then when i went to walk away i smelled this really flowery perfume. the first thing i thought of was my mom. smelled like something she would wear. i kept turning around to see just where the smell was coming from and could not tell. i guess i took a long time, cause my husband came down the steps and asked if i was ready to go. i told him that everything was running fine. he said it was impossible, the electricity was out. i showed him that everything but the lights for the tanks were running. he stood there and said that there was no way if all the electricity was out that the tanks would still be running. i told him that it was. then i asked him if he smelled the perfume. he said he could, but he had been smelling it periodically all week and thoguht that i had gotten some new perfume. i told him i hadn't. so now he is getting really nervous. then there is a knock at the front door.

we all go up and answer the door. there is a fireman standing there telling us it is okay to leave the house now. my husband told him that we were getting ready to leave. the fireman told him that it was a good thing that we had not tried to open the door a few minutes earlier cause a wire had burned off the transformer and was laying on the fence. if we had gone out the front door like we were going to, he would have had to open the gate to get the truck out and been electrocuted.

today, when the electric guys, edison, came out they told us were crazy. we had no electric to our house and no electric activity registered on our meter. yet all of the tanks were running. i told my husband that my mom was still looking out for me cause she knows how much i love my fish and would have been heartbroken if i had lost any of them last night.

weird or what?

kinda spooky mags

you have now entered the Twilight Zone   ;)

Maggie, you must be doing something right. You have GOOD spirits looking out for you.

My Patti has had some similar eerie experiences happen to her. People believe, or they don't. I don't find myself too spooked by it.

we have had some strange things happen in the house where i grew up. even had one happening where they had these specialists from u of mcome and investigate. so, i am kinda used to it, but the hubby is not. got very spooked out cause of it.
