My lfs have 3 what i think are Satanoperca acuticeps mixed in with assorted african cichlids so there only £10. Im not to sure on the id though, sorry about the bad picture but any ideas?

Can't help you on the ID front, but on a different matter. Glad to see you pop up with a post chuck :) Wills is back on here more or less, no doubt he'll pop into the thread and assist you when he notices.

Thanks, nice to be back and see how everyones getting on. Yeah i noticed that and was hoping he would be able to help out.

Back(ish) ;)

Great to see your still into fish K :) Hows the big tank going? Have to admit thats not the best photo for ID really as most Satans are easiest done via spots, face markings and or fin extentions. That spot on the caudial pinicle (spelling) might help though as all three have them even when stressed. Not sure though but off a quick google I can see that S.Leucostica has no spot there but the rest have some kind of spot :/

The big tanks not going well at all, looks like im going to have to sell it to make room for my moped in the garage lol. Im hopefully going to upgrade my 30G to a 50-60G at some point which is why i asked about these. My lfs have said they will swap 50 of my BN fry for these 3 fish so i think ill do it as there only 2" and let them grow in the 30G and by the time there getting to big i should have a bigger tank to keep them in. Im going to swap them on Thursday so ill try and get some better pics once there in my tank and see if there easier to id from. How have things with your upgrade gone? Thanks again for the help :good:

Cool, seems pretty good from your end lol especially at the rate your BNs breed - for these as adults aim for somewhere close to 90g I reckon, one of the big Rena tanks would work nice :)

My tanks going okay, few hicups since the upgrade but all on the mend now. Main problem for me atm is my tank missing a foot and the wood bowed but fixing it as we speak :)

Did a rescape last night so need to add some new pics.

Yeah im happy with it, They have a tiny 10cm rope fish that im tempted buy which he said he will swap for another 10 of the fry. If i remember you telling me right they have quite slow growth rates? so the 90G shouldnt be needed for a while but i should be able to fit an 90G in where i couldnt the 150G.

Glad its worked out alright then, and looking forward to the pics

Do you mean growth rates of the Satans or the Rope Fish? Not sure on Ropes but Satans take ages to get to any size and even longer still to get to adult. Maybe 5ish inches in a year in ideal settings.

Yeah i was meaning the Satanoperca, thats alright then that gives me a while to save and make space for a bigger tanks.

The other thing i meant to ask is will they be ok just the 3 of them? i noticed they have nipped fins towards the end but not sure if thats from each other or the africans there in with, if it would be best to have dithers would a trio of swowrds do the job?
And what sort of size will they hit breeding age because i want to make sure there in a big enough tank just incase they do decide yo breed.

3 should be okay :) but the bigger the better. I imagine the nipped fins will be from the Africans as they really dont belong in there.

I have to admit just an after thought - but if the shop has them in with africans I doubt they are Auticeps or any of the rarities - So going by the tail spot I am going to go with them being Jurupari by default.

I would keep an eye on them cause they need to be in a group of 6 and need sand and they shouldn't be in with African cichlid.
