Sand With Undergravel Filtration

I am wanting to change my tank substrate from gravel to sand. i am just not sure if sand works with an undergravel filter, or will it just be sucked up through it and spit out the powerhead?

oh ok, i was just wondering before i go and replace gravel with sand

unfortunately changing to sand would also require a change to either an internal or external power filter (depending on tank size and stocking)
The sand is simply too fine and will get sucked in and clog the UG filter
