Sand Vs Brown Algae

I got loads of brown crap growing on my divider in my small tank ( i persume its algae maybe isnt) its also growing on the glass and was proving a pain in the rectum to get off, it also on a couple of my plants.

Anyways i have a strange mind and thought about when i use to fix motorbikes and get covered in oil, i use to add washing powder to liquid to get off, so my mind starting ticking overtime lol and i thought, i wonder if i rub the sand on the divider it will sort it...

I was amazed when i got a handfull of sand off the bottom and threw it at divider and quickly wiped it with my hand and all the brown crap quickly just disappeared yay...

Did on the glass and plants as well and it all just went yay..

Doesn't rubbing sand on glass create micro scratches?

i dont mean rub it hard lol, i just made a cloud of sand near the crap and wiped it with hand gently, it came straight off, plus if i cant see the scratches, it dont bother me lol.
