Sand Or Gravel

I've got two angelfish and I bought a new bigger tank, should I put sand or gravel in their.

I think it's up to you and depends what else your adding to the tank if anything.

I prefere gravel as the poo sticks on the sand too much

Probably other cichlids and that's it .

If you're thinking of dwarf cichlids like rams then you should definitely have sand.

Yes sand would be the better options, it opens up a few different avenues for different kinds of fish. If you want Cory's then sand would benefit them no end. Also as mentioned, alot of dwarf cichlids like to sift the sand and also move it about a bit so they can dog themselves a nice little pit.

it keeps your tank looking tidy and very easy to clean.
Sand looks amazing but is hard work to vacuum and really highlights any waste in the tank.

I`m not sure about sand or gravel now ,was going to have sand for my corries ,[even bought it ]but worried about keeping it clean, with gravel you can really clean it with a gravel vac ,but with sand it goes in the bucket,you need to hover the vac over the sand ,although i saw a battery vac ,which collects the debris ,so this might help?Would be interested to hear all of your opinions though?

You get the habit really quickly. Swirl it above the sand which will bring up any poo etc and then you just suck it up with the end of the vac. The darker the substrate the cleaner it looks. Yes you can really clean the gravel, but this can release alot of ammonia into the water column which would be dangerous for your fish and cause algae problems. Sand is better for planting in imo too.

Yes sand looks very nice and is better for chiclids and catfish. it is a little harder to clean but i think it is well worth it.
