sand and plants

Iam currently coverting my tanks to sand instead of gravel. Is there anything special i have to do so live plants will grow well in the sand?

It depends on the plants you choose, but I haven't done anything to the sand and they're thriving. There are fertilizers that can be planted in the sand, but IMO first see if you need them through experimentation - over fertilization can give you serious algae problems.
