I've just recently come across a species on the internet, scientific names are Cichlasoma salvini, Cichlasoma tenue, Heros salvini, or Heros triagramma.
But it's common name is Salvini Cichlid, Tricolor Cichlid, or Yellowbelly Cichlid.

These fish are very beautiful! But I've never seen or heard of them before. Are they a rarer species of fish? I've never seen it in any of my LFS's.
Maybe I need to go to a Cichlid Specialty store.

Yeah they're very beautiful. The female is is a lot more colourful iirc. They can be quite aggressive, especially when breeding.

I have 3 wild caught males (Mexico) and an f1 female (+100 odd fry!). I have read that they are aggressive but I have them all in a mixed cichlid tank- with geos, convicts etc and they all get along fine even when breeding. The females do tend to be bright, as is mine, but my big male when in breeding mode is stunning with blue/green flecks all over. Not sure where you guys are based (UK?) but I will be having a fair few for sale in the coming months!

Apologies for the quality of the pics!

The male is obviously much larger than the female but shows no aggression. even when defending the fry he chases other fish away but never attacks them!

Hi there, I am in nottinghamshire and would be interested in them, you will have to let me know a price of them when you are ready. cheers.

Certainly will- I am in Derby so not far!
This is their first batch so feeling my way a bit but will keep you posted and let you know when I get them to a decent size. Cheers

Ahhh mini Guapotes, they are a fish very closley related to Parachromis (they will probably even be reclassified as Parachromis soon), very similar in temperment to Jaguar Cichlids, tho a lot smaller.

I had one for a few months but sold him with my 6ft tank, very pretty fish and not 'common'.

Yes, it took me ages to get hold of some decent w/c and then I finally got a female! I wouldn't want them to get any bigger than the "mini"- my breeding male's at least 7" !

Thanks matey! :)

They have one or two bigger ones in Wharf Aquatic in Mansfield two weeks ago. They are lovely fishes. They do get aggressive as I understand and gets to about 8". Did consider them myself but too big for my tank...

How big were the ones at Wharf? I struggled to get them at any decent size. Back to the aggression thing, I am really surprised how placid they are- maybe mine are just pansies!? I have Geophagus that are more aggressive!

Yes mate they were in with some Green Sevs and a Jack Dempsey and a few others, can't remember what exactly.

£29.95 for them, got talking to the bloke who worked there and he said that a customer had brought them in for exchange. He said they were being extremely placid with all the other fish which he was suprised by. The female was in full breeding colouration. No idea if they were, but she looked horny...

Yes, the male was around that size, the female was a bit smaller iirc.
