Safely Dropping My Ph

hi recently set up my 7 foot 1000 litre tank and the ph is around 8, i really need it to be between 6.5 and 7 in order to set it up for the rays and other fish i plan on keeping. how can i safely do this in this amount of water? in smaller tanks i have successfully used peat and indian almond leaves to lower the ph but in this size tank i'd need a carrier bag full! i neither want to put that in the tank or colour the water so is there any safe chemicals or other ways of safely dropping the ph down 1 - 1.5?
would doing water changes with ro water make any difference? just a thought!

I've always been discouraged against using PHdown or chemicals to alter PH. Been advised that stability is the best approach, as fluctuations in PH can have an adverse effect on your fish. I reckon if you were to use RO water or something along those lines and then mineralise it or mix it with part-tap it's probably amongst the safer methods. I've never needed to worry as keep cichlids, so not much clue re-rays...

yeah but if the water was to be stabilized as it is at ph 8, surely that would make it more difficult to get it down to between 6.5 and 7. my idea was to get the ph to where it needs to be and then work on the stability. the rays will not be going in for a good few months so i have this amount of time to get the params stable and let the tank mature.
any other ideas guys?
