I know this isnt fish related but since this is the only section on here that I post in I was hoping that you wouldn't mind if I told you whats going on... I just got back from seeing a neuro surgeon and I have to have back surgery on friday morning. I have a disc fragment thats pushing one of my nerves and causing severe pain and numbness and I need to have the fragment removed. I am really scared... I've never had any type of surgery before, I dont know what to expect and im so scared that something will go wrong.

Gosh, thoughts with you. I live with constant back pain and know how hard it can be sometimes, so I know it must be a relief for you knowing you can get some help. But I equally get your fear, I've never had surgery either and I don't know how I'd deal with that.

Wish ya oodles of luck and healing vibes :* :flowers:

Awwww you poor thing.....it must be very daunting for you and I'll be keeping everything crossed that it all goes well :good: I'm sure your mind will be conjuring up all sorts of awful things but usually things go alot smoother in reality. Big hugs and will send you lots of positive thoughts across the airwaves :flowers:

If it's any comfort, great advances have been made in spinal surgery, a state of affairs that's been ongoing over a very long time.
Many people have back surgery - it's very common now - so the surgeons get lots of practice.
About all you have to worry about is how much your lovely fish will miss you while you're in getting fixed up, and how you'll get used to feeling so much better when the pain and numbness have been relieved.
There's a big difference between ongoing injury pain and recovery from a surgery to remove it.
Plus you'll get stuff to deal with that, so that'll help.
You'll do fine and be better in no time.
Don't worry, be happy, you're being fixed up.

You will be fine. It is the thought of the unknown that is scaring you. When you get there I am sure you will be more relaxed. Good luck :good: :good:

I'll be thinking of you also, be brave, it'll be worth it! xx

:flowers: My thoughts and best wishes to you! You will feel better when it is over. Sending (BIG HUGS) your way!!!

Ah no need to sweat it man,

These people are highly trained professionals. Plus my dad had a slipped disc in his back also.

He went in for the surgery about 3 years ago. Before that he would have to crouch down every hour odd to relieve his back of the pain. after the surgery he was on his back for a year as that was the seriousness of his surgery. Now he is playing football again and he has never looked back on the decision.

I wish you all the luck man.

I don't post over here very often, but I'm glad I saw this one and can help.

AmberLynn - Try not to stress about the surgery. I had back surgery 2 years ago and opted to go with a neuro surgeon because my case was a little complicated. I had a badly herniated disc between the 4th & 5th lumbar (lower back). I also had a congenital narrowing of the canal the sciatic nerve runs through, as well as degenerative arthritis (genetic) causing my 5th lumbar to fall apart. So, the surgeon ended up fusing the 4th & 5th lumbar, widening the nerve canal, and removing the disc. As scary as it sounded (I wasn't scared until surgery day) the surgery was a breeze. The first thing I remember after waking up is "Oh my God, the nerve pain is gone". It really works that fast! Pain from being cut open (sorry for being so graphic) is NOTHING compared to unending nerve pain (which I'm sure you understand). The biggest things I found irritating were being so weak that going to the bathroom required a nap after  ; and I swelled so bad from the surgery I couldn't fit into any of my clothes for almost a month. So, I wore a lot of sweats.

If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me. :good:

Hey all I just got home today from the hospital. Had the surgery yesterday morning around 730am it went really smoothly and though im really sore from the incision and feel really weak, the nerve pain is gone and I couldnt be happier about that! Ill be on here a lot lol cause Im not allowed to do anything for the next few days besides lay around and relax. But I feel so relieved thanks for everyones support!

That is fantastic news, so glad it went smoothly. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery xxx
