PLEASE HELP!!
Hi all,
I think my Rosy Barb may be laying eggs?
I have 6 plattys, 2 rosy barbs in the 30l tank.
I have attached images below, she seems to be a lot bigger than what she was a week ago. And she’s often hiding behind the “rock” we have in the tank which she never used to do. Could she be bloated or laying eggs? Our male barb follows her everywhere and always has. All the fish get along well. We have recently done a 20% water change 3 days ago. But I noticed then her stomach was looking a little fuller. Also she is swimming more towards the bottom. What should I do? Help please??

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

How long have you had her for?
How long has she been fat for?
Is she still eating normally?
Is she doing normal poop?
What's the temperature of the tank water?
How long has the tank been set up for?
Are you sure the other rosy barb is male?

You could try doing a 75% water change and gravel clean each day for a week. That can encourage fish to spawn.
Make sure any new water is free of chlorine/ chloramine before it is added to the tank.

Sometimes raising the temperature a couple of degrees can also encourage them to breed.

Hi, thank you!
We have had the barbs for 1 month.
She wasn’t fat when we had her, only the last couple of days she seems to have put weight on. She is eating more than the rest and being aggressive when there is food as if she wants it all to herself.
Yes she is doing normal poop.
It is a temperate tank therefore it is usually around 21.
We have had the tank and most plattys well over a year nearly 2 years.
Yes, we are certain the other is a male as this is why we purchased the pair together.
If you could let me know what you think would be the problem with her whether she is laying eggs or just bloated that would be great.
Thanks for your help.

She could be bloated but also have eggs. If she is eating well and her poop is normal then it is probably eggs.

If the temperature is only at 21C then raise it to 24C and the fish will probably spawn. :)

Are you aware that rosy barbs are a shoaling species so you need at least 6 of them, with 8 to 10 being better.

And I hope that 30l means 30 gallon long, not 30 litres. If it is 30 litres it is too small for platies and rosy barbs.

Thank you for your help, will raise the temperature slowly tomorrow
