What new filter are you getting?

fluval 3+, i'm not big on techy stuff but from what i have read and people have said, it seemed like the best option for me.

i'll keep the stingray media, either use it as a sponge filter or add into the new filter, so atleast there is mature media there.

OK, should be sufficient. Certainly better than the Stingray!

Yeah, put the old foam from the Stingray into the new filter. Cut it if needed to make it fit, but make sure it's kept wet with old tank water.

I'd let that filter run for a couple of months before getting any new fish, personally. Just to make sure things have settled down.

What fish have you got left?

yeah, that's what i am thinking, i can't go through another fish loss

i've got all my bettas and a few khulis and 1 amano left. They are looking a lot better, colored back up, no stress lines and back to their normal eating routines.

It sounds like your tank wasn't cycled properly to start with and adding the new fish pushed the balance?

I don't know, nothing can be done to change it now, unfortunately.

Your new filter should be much better and as long as your water stats stay stable, it should be OK to add some more fish after a few months.

i spoke to a vet, who specifies in tropical fish, has said that easycarbo shouldn't be added to a new tank, that hasn't been set up for a min of 6 weeks. It's all well and good, transferring mature media over but if the water hasn't matured, the stuff in easycarbo will basically poison the fish.

i read it on another forum, gave this vet a call and he confirmed it

the vet is talking rubbish. We would have told you not to do that Beth, i have never heard somthing so ridiculous. (not aimed at you Beth). I have just read this thread back, and Si has made some really valid points, which no one has actually read?

i've not ignored any posts, ordered a new filter last monday, just seems to be taking it's time getting here grrrrrrrrr

i got happy bettas and alive khulis, so for now i can relax, i think! i'm starting to hate vets thii week
