Hi I'm a newbie here was just wondering which powerhead you would recommend for the 180 was looking at above 1000lph and was just wondering if there any that are reasonably priced that others have used? Also looking at getting an external and was looking at the fluval 305 or 306 or 405 or 406 any recommendations? Also anyone tried these http://m.ebay.com/itm?itemId=290988598952 ? Also looking at upgrading to a fluval e300 heater also anyone had any issues with these? Sorry for all the questions but anyone in the uk recommend a 3d background for the 180 as the juwel ones I was looking at are too big two be able to fit two in.

Thanks for any help

It depends on what you want to do with the tank. Without knowing your requirements we can't know what powerhead to suggest.

As for the backgrounds, the juwel ones are made of foam and are very easy to cut down to size. I have done so for mine, to fit them in a non-juwel tank simply with a stanley knife.

I've heard of several people who have had grief from their Fluval 'E' series heaters, I've had mine (x2) for quite a while now and have run trouble free

Power heads I have both a 1000 L/h and a 750 L/h Maxijet units they are about £25 each, the 1000 L/h unit was a little bit on the strong side so bought the 750 L/h for my 200L tank, (and fitted a Fluval Edge filter sponge on the intake nozzle) I also run a Fluval 306 filter and that along with the 206 for my smaller tank have also performed flawlessly.

Sorry forgot to mention it's going to be a community tank guppys, neons, a few Cory's and the tank itself is going to have a few rocks and a couple of bits of bog wood but mainly going to be planted as well there are a few sets on ebay I was looking at for the plants I believe it was 100 plants for around £18-20. Oh ok didn't realise they were foam thought they were a plastic of some sought

Neons and guppies together? Hmmm...

Anyway, I'd say that you don't really need a powerhead, the filter should provide enough flow.

Thanks mate I'm also getting a delivery of ro water so might try discus do they go ok with guppys? Although will have to and feed separately

You might have to KEEP the separately.
Discus are soft water fish which live at high temperatures
Guppies are hard water fish which live a lower temps than discus

Also a rio 180 is a bit small for discus.
To be honest I wouldn't have a community tank with discus smaller than 350 litres.
