Does anyone recommend a submersible pump? I used to use one in a 1200 gallon pond but everyone seems to talk about that reverse gravel suction that cost 3x more then a 80gph pump. What does everyone else do?

Tired of making messes lol
I had a 300 gph transfer pump but I sold it. I would but a $30 pump in a heart beat but am i missing something with that reverse gravel siphon thing?

Most people can refill straight from the tap with any generic vinyl hose. A python is simply an extremely over priced version of this. I personally drain into the tub and remove the showerhead and attach a hose to refill. 30 ft hose with all the proper attachements cost like $12. The python/most gravel vac hoses are 1/2" inner diameter, which costs like 0.30 cents a foot if you buy the bulk stuff at the stores. I just drain my tanks using gravity... its yet to let me down ;)

I would use a hose but man my house water sucks....

I do it bucket by bucket... Is it ok to just do it from the hose without dechlor?

You still need to dechlorinate it, just put it straight into the tank. I do half of the dechlor while it's filling and the other half after it's done. I believe it's recommended to dechlorinate for the full amount of the tank rather than what you are replacing, or at least that's what I was told so I've been doing that. So much better than using buckets!

We have one of the overpriced ones from the lfs :p

My current water sucks as well for straight filling, since there is a large pH drop after it comes out of the tap. I do miss filling straight from tap. I currently do use a pump. Many pumps work, I use a 400gph powerhead that I got really cheap. A small sump pump would probably work better for height. My powerhead can pump water up 4ft from surface level okay but ofc it looses a bunch of flow at that height.
