Red Tail Botia Help

I definitely agree about the long term future of those Bala Sharks, who will need something approachin an 8-foot tank as they get older.

Given the spitefulness of these Botia, it would not surprise me if they gave as good as they get from the Rainbow Sharks, but I must admit that as soon as I saw there were two (albeit peaceful and playful together now) Sharks in the tank I had alarm bells ringing (the closely related Red Tail Black Sharks will rarely tolerate their own kind in the tank, plus anything of a similar shape or even colour).

i did a lot of reading about the reinbow sharks and the red tail sharks
the rainbows can be kept together but may fight. in that case then one will be removed to the livebearer tank.
i was told by will to look out for another type of silver shark as they dont grow as large. currently trying to find them locally.
it seems as though all the fish fight if kept in low numbers but if increased to around 6 they all seem to share the bullying.
so would this mean that all the mixed fish would bully each other a little and not just pick on one particular fish?
danny

It really is a case of suck it and see,or remove to avoid the possibility, no one can say for certain, but offer advice from what we, hear, know or witness first hand, i have done things that others would say no way, then again ive done things that didnt work, then pass on the info ive had learnt, trying to help others before..Watch what happens in the comming months, atleast your upgrading to a nice sized tank, Then having lots of area's i recon it will be more than fine

update on the situation
I LOVE THEM
they are great they are very active if i switch to just one light and they do stick up for themselves.
the leporinus were put back into the tank as i have not completely finished cycleing the tank that they were in. (most hardy fish i had)
so now the livebearer tank is set up.
anyway
the leporinus quickly started to pick a fight with the rainbow fish. (they won so the rainbow fish found a new home and then the botia fancied the large cave and went in and really had a good go at the leporinus. they did leave promptly but they gave as good as they could. so they have now found a new home also.
i might go back and get another 5 as i i would like to keep around 6 of them as advised from a website. (i would have 7 but one may not survive etc)
the leporius are also meant to be kept in groups so i might have to get some more...
would the following work in a 6x2x2?

6 x botia's
6 x clown loach
1 x golden nugget
1 x sailfin pleco
6 x leporinus
20 x pink tetra
2 x rainbow sharks

i may dedcide against the silver sharks and instead try and get the fish shop to swap/part ex them.

also are the below prices good?

clown loach £5 each 4cm
botia's £4.25 each 5cm
Pink tetra are 3 for £5
leporinus £2.95 each 4 inch
Golden nugget £30 for 5 inch
I cant seem to find the clown loach at less than £5

update on the update on the botias.
i loved how they were always busy in the morning so we bought another 5 from the LFS so that took us to 7.
then today we popped into Oasis in manchester, we came away with another two but they are a big bigger than the other 7.
they have grouped of into a 4 and 5 with one large botia in each group.
since having the botias in the tank the leporinus have calmed down. (after they ate my bala sharks)
