Im not too bothered about removing it if its harmless, just want to make sure its ok... Its an African Tank btw with no plecs/catifsh or syno's.

Thanks.

it looks a bit like blue green alage (Cyanobacter bacteria). It comes in different colours including red, brown and black. Suck it out and try to get rid of it anytime it appears.

It is usually brought about by excess nutrients and low oxygen levels. Maybe do daily partial water changes and gravel cleans for the next week and make sure the filter is running properly.

If you can get the rock out easily then take it out and hos eit off. Then put it back in the tank.

if it's blue green algae then you want to get rid of it before it spreads. Once it settles in it can take over and cover everything really quickly. Then you will have trouble getting rid of it.

It isn't going to kill the fish but it does look unsightly and makes the tank smell a bit when it covers large areas.

Ok, thanks.

Ill take it out during my next waterchange and give it a scrub then.
