...because im going to the pet shop in about an hour to get sand and i dont know which to go to...

one sells sand and says its 6litres and the other sells it and says its 25kg.

how many kg is 6litres does anypne know??

You just need to multiply the kilograms by 0.96

gm/cmÂÂ³ is the same as kg/l

1 gram = 0.001 kilogram
1 cubic centimeter = 0.001 liter
gm/cmÂ³ = 0.001 kg/ 0.001 liter = kg/liter

So 0.96 kg/l means that 1 liter weighs 0.96 kilograms.

found that on the net... are you looking for volume or weight?

How bigs ya tank mate?

I always thought that 1 litre was 1kg, if ya in the uk go to homebase or argos and get a 25kg bag of silver/playsand for just under a fiver mate.

Can't really help you. The liter measurement is the volume of the sand (how much space it will take up in the tank). The kilogram measurement is a weight measurement - how much the sand in the bag/container weighs. What I don't know is how much a liter of sand weighs.

Oooops - this was well answered while I was posting. Yep - 1 liter of water should be 1 kg. The sand will be heavier than water though (or it wouldn't sink), but it's still a good rough measurement comparison.

my tank is 3ft by 15inches.

think im better off with the 25kg one for Â£16 because 6 litres actually isnt that much. especially as i need it quite thick to put in plants.

the 6 litre sand is Â£10 as well so better deal on the 25kg

Get over to a homebase mate its the same stuff and 1/4th of the price, ive used it in my tanks before hand and it worked perfect. Just make sure you really do wash it well.

I 25kg of really nice looking 'play sand' from B&Q for Â£4.
The only downside to play sand is that you need to wash it to get rid of all the silt, the silt desnt harm the fish though it merley makes the tank look cloudy.
You could also loom for pool filter sand, which doesn't need to be washed. No idea where you would buy it though (as theres not too many outdoor swimming pools in the UK, so less demand), it's supposed to be just as cheap as play sand :good:
