Rain Water

hi again,
with all the rain we have here in Cornwall is using collected rain water ok for water changes especially with my discus in mind?

I have used rain water collected in Bath. You have to be careful to make sure that it is not polluted.. which is basically impossible. But if you get rain blown in from the sea, it's probably a pretty good bet that it's ok. Then remember that some roofs have lead joints, so I wouldn't collect from those (although some people would be happy to).

thanks for that i will collect straight from the sky to a bucket and funnel to a storage tank hopefully that will keep it clean

I was using rainwater for my discus, rams, and to breed my tetras. I did collect it from my gutters, but I had previously tested it and it was fine. However I noticed a lot of my fry and some of my rams dying so I again tested the rainwater and it was sky high in nitrites. I would definitely suggest testing it before using it to avoid this kind of problem. Before the nitrite problem though, the ph was perfect for the discus, rams, and breeding and they seemed to do well in it. If it isn't going through any gutters, etc. it is probably fine but I would still test it to make absolutely sure.

I would suggest that, with care, it probably the best stuff to use.
