Quick Question...

Just tested my water and ammonia was 0.25ppm. It is a very very heavy planted tank and i did add 25 fish on Saturday. I added 10 full size blue tetras, 10 lemon tetras and 6 Harlequins. Should I worry? I'm due a water change tomorrow because I am finishing treatment for fin rot.

Also does the stingray elite filter have carbon in? If so will this have effected my treatment?

Firstly, congrats on the 500!

Secondly, yes the stingray does have carbon.

Thirdly, because it does have carbon, a nice water change is advised.

The tank is 164l and i also have a fluval 4 in the tank. Does that make a difference?

How long has the filter been running. If the carbon has been in there for awhile (say a week or so), then it's unlikely to have had any effect on the treatment.

Also to address your ammonia issue, as it's 0.25 and a cycled(?) heavily planted tank, I'd give it a chance to rectify on it's own. Check again tomorrow, if it hasn't gone down at all then I'd suggest a 50% change, then just let it subside on it's own.

Well think about it. I had 10 fish and added another 25 in one go so that is why the ammonia is happening. But the plants should help A LOT. I expected it to happen just wanted to be reassured. Also the carbon has been in the tank about 8 month!

That's why I said give it a chance to even itself out. Whenever I introduce large amounts of fish I watch the ammonia for a couple of days to make sure it's being kept low enough.

However if your tank is showing 0.25ppm now then presumably it'll have been quite a bit higher yesterday... so just remember in future. You should probably test for the next 24 - 48 hours after large fish additions. You don't want to do them any damage.

And if the carbon has been in for 8months then it'll no longer be active and so wont have had an effect on the treatment.
